Legend has it that about 2,200 years ago, the First Emperor of China wanted an elixir of immortality, so he sent a man named Jofuku to sail to the Tango Peninsula to search for the elixir.
From the 4th to 5th centuries, rice cultivation, farming, iron processing, weaving, and sake brewing developed, and a large city known as the Tango Kingdom was born.
With such a historical background, the Tango Peninsula still retains its good old industry, agriculture, culture, and customs.
Cycling from Kyoto City to the Tango Peninsula is truly dynamic. The scenery changes rapidly, from mountains, clear streams, lakes, dams, rural villages, and fishing villages, leaving cyclists amazed. The terrain is also rugged, with many courses offering constant excitement, making this a cycling tour.
Once you enter the Tango Peninsula, a magnificent view of the coastline spreads out before your eyes. There are beautiful, quiet beaches and cliff-like coastlines, making for a very varied terrain. The water quality is excellent and highly transparent, and on sunny days you can see the deep blue sea, known as “Tango Blue,” that is unique to the Tango Peninsula.

This tour will be accompanied by a support car. We will provide directions, emergency response, and transport your luggage to your accommodation. In addition, since we have branches in Kyoto City and the Tango Peninsula, we can provide local guides who are familiar with the area.

As it is a hidden gem in Kyoto, we will be cycling through sparsely populated towns, but the local people are shy but kind and friendly. On this tour, we hope to create as many opportunities as possible to interact with the locals.

While cycling through this town, where rice farms, pesticide-free vegetable farms, and fishing industries thrive, you can see the locals at work and living their lives. You can experience the hidden countryside of Kyoto that you can’t see in Kyoto city.

While you might imagine Kyoto city as the birthplace of washoku, a cuisine recognized as a World Heritage Site, its origins lie in Kyoto by the sea. Rice, condiments such as sake, soy sauce, and vinegar, as well as vegetables and fish, were all brought from Kyoto by the sea through trade, making it the true origin of washoku.

We have high-quality electric bicycles available for comfortable cycling from Kyoto City to the Tango Peninsula. We also have a wide selection of large electric bicycles (touring and mountain types) that are comfortable for taller customers.
