This is a cycling course with many ups and downs that is popular with local cyclists. Because of the high altitude, it is much cooler than downtown Kyoto, and you can experience a refreshing feeling as you ride along the river. This is a hidden gem with few tourists, so we recommend it.

Kurama Temple

The head temple of Kurama Kōkyō. A sacred mountain where it is said that the Tengu, a legendary creature also known as a god or a monster, lives.

Hanase Pass

Hanase Pass is very famous among local cyclists. The altitude is 759 m.It has many ups and downs and is not recommended for beginners. The road branches out and is a major mountain artery that can take you to various places (Keihoku Town, Miyama Town, Kifune, Ohara). This page introduces the Ohara route.

Momoi-wakare farewell

Momoi-wakare farewell is the fork in the road that leads to Momoi and Ohara. Most of the way from Hanase to Ohara, where Sanzenin Temple is located, is downhill. The temperature is cool, making it a perfect cycling route.

Sanzen-in Temple

Sanzenin Temple, a temple that symbolizes the Ohara region, is famous for its autumn leaves and gardens. As it is a tourist attraction, there may be a few more tourists, but it is a popular course among local cyclists.

Ohara

Ohara is an area that produces high-quality brand vegetables known as "Kyoto vegetables." It is also very famous as a producer of Kyoto pickles. You can enjoy a leisurely cycle ride through the tranquil countryside.

Yase

When we reached Yase, we were approaching downtown Kyoto. The roads were relatively busy and the traffic was quite fast, so we needed to be careful when cycling, but there were wide sidewalks so we could ride safely.
